How to Combine Multiple Decorating Styles

You may find yourself in a strange predicament when decorating your home: you realize that you like more than one style and can't choose between them. You don't want to sacrifice what you enjoy; you want to blend it all together. You just aren't sure how to do that. After all, surely there are limits to which styles and interior paint ideas can match? And surely some interior paint ideas were never meant to be used together? You fear that you will have to select one and lose the other. Well... you don't have to. It all depends on moderation. You can have the interior paint ideas and styles you want and manage to combine them gracefully. You just need to find the similarities between them and work within them. Of course, you may think that is impossible; if only because some interior paint ideas are complete opposites. If these are your styles, though, it is more likely that they do have something in common. You like them for a reason, after all. You just have to decide what that is and discover the link. Once you do, you can learn how to properly weave them together. Some may think this folly: they believe no styles should be mixed and, instead, each room should have its own look. The problem with this is that there is no flow to a home. Instead, each space becomes so individualized that rooms give wonderful impressions of museums but not workable areas. You have to have some sort of connection between them - whether this is through color, fabric, etc, it needs to be done. You can mix styles but you have to have a balance between them. Otherwise, you will lose what you love about them and have no focus to your home. For an example of this, consider this scenario: you love shabby chic. The comfort, the simplicity of it, appeals very much to your nature. But you also find yourself enjoying contemporary styles. The sleek lines and polished surfaces are the epitome of elegance. You think these can't be combined. Well... they can. You just have to select carefully. Find colors that run through various pieces. Perhaps you have a quilt that features a geometric design? That could compliment that oddly shaped lamp you happen to have. Do you put these in the same room? Probably not. But you can use them both as they deliver the same feeling. Find commonalities between them and thread both throughout the home. It may not be a seamless match but it is one that will work for you. Moderation is the key: you have to balance styles and interior paint ideas to make sure they are evenly represented and well displayed. Otherwise, you may find yourself with a few very odd pieces in a room dominated by a particular style. This loses the equilibrium. You can mix as you wish, just understand that there has to be a sense of understanding between what you like. And that is not hard to achieve, we promise. It just takes a little creativity and some practical thinking. You'll like what you see.
