It's a classic: It's Saturday night. Boy meets Girl, Boy and Girl have a fantastic conversation; Boy gets Girl's phone number. On Sunday afternoon, Boy sits by the phone, fully intending to call Girl. But as his fingers punch in her number, a wave of sheer panic washes over him.
Thoughts flood his head: Will she pick up? If I ask her out for lunch, will she say yes? What if she says no? The pressure of all these thoughts are all too much for Boy, so he puts the phone down and puts his head between his knees to get the circulation going on again.
On the other end, Girl sits by the phone waiting for Boy to call. It's already Monday night, and still no sign from Boy. What went wrong? Didn't they have a good time Saturday night?
This story has many variations but essentially the same meaning: Men go through a lot of pressure when faced with the prospect of calling a woman up.
There are no direct ways to get rid of this pressure, if not for outright prevention. This is the only way you can ensure that you won't turn into a cold, sweating mess while you're on the phone. Preventing certain situations from happening can ensure utmost confidence when you pick up the phone and perhaps even getting her to say yes to a date.
Try not to want the date too much; this will very quickly turn into desperation, and women can hear this a mile away. To solve this, get more than one phone number. If it doesn't work out with one, it should work out with someone else. Much like having a safety net, the assurance of another phone number to call will give you some kind of peace when you dial.
Another important thing to remember is that women do not want to be impressed over the phone; it smacks of tattooing the word "Loser!" on your forehead. If you're such a great guy, certainly they would've seen it when they gave your their numbers.
When it comes to asking women out, do pick up the phone and expect them to decline. You'll appreciate the warm feeling of achievement when they say yes. Granted, they won't say yes all the time, but your chances are higher if you ask them to accompany you somewhere instead of asking them out straightaway. Sure, women have fun going to Starbucks. But give them the idea that they'll have even more fun if they go with you.
Most importantly, be confident enough to ask for what you want. Women value confidence in a man above most things, and it wouldn't hurt your chances of getting a "yes." It'll also help you when you call them up, because you are self-assured enough to handle whatever the outcome is. With these tips in mind, making your next phone call should be easier than asking for her phone number in the first place.
