Your choice of words matters as well; women can tell if you're trying to talk to them or trying to flirt with them. Just remember this: Flirting is not talking. Tease them, tell them they're attractive, and be confident about it. Women respond right at the beginning, so you'll be able to tell if they like what you're doing. Don't take it personally when you fail though – it could have just been bad timing.
Now that you know how to flirt, the next step is calling them up. If they give you their numbers, call them! This has always been a bone of contention among women who constantly wait for men to call. They probably understand that you're nervous when you pick up the phone to dial, but you shouldn't be. This nervousness will very easily translate to desperation, and believe me, they can hear every quavering note in your voice over the phone.
Be confident enough to ask for what you want, and make them hear that. They're bound to say yes. If it makes it any easier, dial their number while already expecting them to refuse. That way, you'll be pleasantly surprised when they accept your invitation. It shows that you're fun to be with, and that they'd have more fun with you than if they went to Starbucks by themselves.
The most important thing to remember about all this is to maintain the right attitude. Women generally gravitate towards cocky and funny personalities. They don't mean arrogant when they say cocky, and neither do they mean goofy when they say funny. It's a matched pair, being cocky and funny. Women like arrogance and humor together because it is synonymous to confidence. This winning combination says a lot about you, and all of them being the right things.
So you see, women are not that difficult to impress. Traditional gestures of candy and flowers can only get you so far, but the modern woman wants to know the man who so earnestly pursues her. Show them that you can understand their sensibilities, and believe me, they'll be grateful that you did.
