Prom night how-to's to help keep you calm, cool and collected. Q:How do I pin a boutonniere on my date without sticking him? A:Hold the flower so it's facing you, lift the left lapel away from your date's chest and place the pin on the back of the flower through the button hole. No hole? Position the flower about four inches down, stick the pin through, then weave back through the lapel again. Q:Two forks, two spoons and which bread plate is mine? A:The farthest fork away, usually the smaller, is for salad. The other is for dinner. The spoon to the far right is for soup; the smaller one above your place is for digging into dessert. Avoid eating your date's roll by sticking with the bread plate—and bread—on your left. Q:How can I ask him to the prom without being a nervous wreck? A:First, take a deep breath and relax. Remind yourself that he's be lucky to be your date. Get him alone or call him—you'll be less nervous without an audience. Then ask ‘I was wondering if you'd want to go to the prom together.' If he says yes, great! If he says no, say that's ok and end the convo pronto! Q:How can I say no if a guy I'm not into asks me to the prom? A:Two words: Be kind. Getting rejected isn't easy. Say ‘No thanks but I'm flattered you asked.' You may feel bad about hurting his feelings, but saying ‘Maybe' even if you'd never go with him may fill an awkward silence but will only prolong the awkward situation. Q:Is it a fashion faux pas to wear the same dress to two different proms? A:Not at all! This isn't the Grammy's and you're not Mary J. Blige. One great dress is better than two so-so ones. Vary your hair, makeup or accessories. Go hair down for one prom and hair up the next. Or wear a wrap one night and a little cardigan the next. There are lots of ways to make one dress look different.
