Selling your home doesn't have to be a long and difficult process if you have everything in order. It can be frustrating when people come, look around, and then they don't make an offer on it. Sometimes your home won't be what they needed but in many instances it could be that you haven't paid enough attention to various details before you put your home on the market.
Before someone ever steps foot into a home to look around, they will see the yard. You need to make sure it looks wonderful. If the paint is old and chipping then you will want to take the time to repaint it. That isn't a very expensive process and you should be able to complete it in very little time. This will make your home more inviting. Take the time to sweep the driveway as well as the porch. Windows should be clean as well.
If you have toys in your yard get them picked up. Consider a plastic bin where children can return them when they are done. A yard that is cluttered with toys and other items isn't attractive at all. If you have old cars cover them with tarps. They can be an eyesore that immediately turns someone off from looking at your home.
Check your doors and screen doors as well. If they don't open like they should it is going to be immediately noticed. It can take away from the charm of your home. People want a place that they are able to readily move into without it being one problem to take care of after another. Make sure that you have good lighting in every room of the home. It only takes a few minutes to replace light bulbs. You can also add some lamps to a room that may appear to be too dark.
If your furniture is older, consider placing nice blankets or throws over them. This will give a better overall appearance of those rooms in your home. This is also more affordable than going out to buy new furniture at that point in time. People that are looking at your home are deciding if it is going to work for them. You need them to see it as a comfortable and inviting environment.
The bathrooms are one area of a home that can seem dirty or dingy even if you have been cleaning them. Consider placing new towels as well as decorative soaps on the counter. The shower needs to look clean too. In some homes it may be clean but it can be hard to give that appearance. Do your best to find a remedy for hard water and soap scum that is designed to work on the type of materials found in your shower.
How does your home smell? You don't want it to have odors such as cigarette smoke or pets. Air fresheners can be a turn off to some potential buyers too due to the heavy smell or even the scent that you have selected. You want to try to offer something that is clean and refreshing but not overpowering.
All of these details may seem minor in your book. They may be issues you have been dealing with for a long time. However, in the eyes of a potential buyer they are going to make a huge difference. It can give them the wrong vibes of our home and so they won't pursue buying it. When you take the time to take care of these important details it can help reduce the amount of time your home is in the market. It can also help to ensure that you get a decent price for it as well.
