Private investigators in Georgia have a different certification system than the other US states. Georgia requires special courses and testing to become a PI. The certification can be obtained through Learning Shop USA online and other similar schools.
Learning Shop USA provides a class entitled Georgia Basic Training Course for Licensure (101). This course, when taken, will help the participant become certified as a private investigator in the state of Georgia. The class offers all the requirements and testing to purse private investigation. The class topics include rules of evidence, forensics, evidence collection, background investigation, surveillance, search and seizure, criminal defense investigation, note taking, report writing, testifying, criminal law, civil process, felonies and misdemeanors, ethics, interviewing, interrogating, insurance fraud, white-collar crime, executive protection, terrorism, homeland security, business practices, and the rules of Georgia Board of Private Detectives and security agencies.
Though this class costs more than any other at Learning Shop USA, it covers all the 30 other classes involved in the school. There will be no need to take anything else if this class is pursued and completed in full. After completing the course you must take a test for certification and pass. After passing this course and test it is time to choose the specialty you would be good at.
Specialties include anything from family to business. Family aspects of private investigation include divorce and the settlings, proving adultery, and child custody cases. Some private investigators may choose to work for a firm or company to look for fraud of any kind throughout their system. The US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics first put out an article in the 2004 describing the work of private investigators and the conditions, qualifications, employment, training and more needed to be in the field. The manual was entitled the "Occupational Outlook Handbook for Private Detectives and Investigators." In the manual there is a lot of information pertinent to anyone looking to get into the private investigator career path.
Being a private investigator can be dangerous so some states allow those certified to carry armed weapons. These armed weapons can be used as protection in extreme family cases or other disgruntling situations people may be involved in. It is up to you whether you would like to train to be a private investigator in Georgia or any other state. The dangers involved can be rewarding if folks are genuinely helped by the end of an investigation.
Other than becoming certified and passing a test for the state of Georgia, a person must also have the personality for private investigation. You must be outgoing, communicate easily, and have a go-getter attitude. Patience is also a must in private investigation because a certain case might have to develop over a long period of time. Persistence and drive can make a good private investigator if certification and testing qualifications are completed as well. Private investigation is a rewarding field with many benefits if one puts in the time for training and experience.
