When you feel that a situation needs to be changed, there are ways of bringing this issue to the attention of the authorities with the power to make the changes. One of these ways is to start a petition in which you collect signatures of all those affected. Starting a petition is free and easy with the wealth of tools and resources available online on many sites dedicated to petitions. These sites allow you to create a petition, host it for free and promote it so that you can get the number of signatures you need to be able to pass it on to the appropriate person or organization. Starting a petition (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/create-online-petition) means creating a document stating your concerns about the issue. Depending on this issue and the authority to whom you need to submit it, there may be certain requirements you must meet in order for the petition to be deemed valid. Before you start any kind of petition, you must do your research to find out what these requirements are and whether or not this authority accepts online petitions. This will help you create the right kind of petition for your needs. Online petitions are easier, but if you feel the issue is an important one and the authority will only accept paper petitions, then you will have to look at starting a conventional petition. There is no one specific number of signatures you need to have when starting a petition. This number depends on the nature of the petition. In the case of a local issue, you do need to have the support of the majority of people in that area. In order to present a petition to the government, each government requires a percentage of the registered voters' signatures on the petition. As for global issues, an online petition (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/browse-petitions) is one way in which you can collect a huge number of signatures from all over the world. When starting a petition, there are certain guidelines you should follow. Your petition should have a suitable title. This title should be short and to the point and sum up the reason for the petition in as few words as possible. By reading the title, potential signers will be able to decide whether or not they support this cause and want to sign their name. In addition to the title explaining the reason for the petition, you do need to have an opening statement. This is probably the part that will take you the longest time to write when starting a petition. You may have a lot to say about the issue, but you cannot write all your thoughts in this statement. Those whom you want to sign do not have all day to read the statement. Therefore, you need to sit down and create a draft of the statement by describing the current situation, explaining why changes the petition letter lists are needed, and how they will improve the situation. In order to get those in authority to listen to you, you also should make recommendations of how these changes can be put in place. The explanation of the petition should be as clear and concise as possible. When you have legitimate concerns for starting a petition and you have logical and reasonable ways in which the situation can be changed, you will garner a lot of support and those in authority will listen to you making the petition very effective.
