Shoes are forms of self expression but there was a time when women had limited freedom not only in voting but also in fashion. During the early 1900's, it is considered inappropriate for a woman to show her ankle and so the popular shoes at that time were boots that covered up the whole feet. Skirts were also floor length and so shoes were far from being the center of attention. Shoes were only wanted for its function and not for fashion. Eventually as time passed, women were granted more freedom and so the shoe revolution began. Fashion is always inspired of the past, present and future but I've always had a fascination of reviving trends of the past decades because there were so many wonderful shoes that walked down memory lane. Retro styles are continually inspiring patterns of footwear trends we now see in catwalks and here's a list of my favorites: 1. Mary Janes These are strap shoes that have low heels and rounded closed toe typically worn by girls. They are black and made out of leather which is worn in formal occasions. It first became a hit in the 1920's but made its way back in modern times. Compared to the traditional Mary Janes, the re-launch of these retro styled shoes comes now in platforms or high heels. I am so thrilled that this style came back with a vengeance! I can now wear again this childhood favorite of mine. 2. Go-Go Boots In the 1960's, as civil rights movement started to flourish together with explorations to the moon, people also started to experiment with colors, texture, style and materials when it comes to shoes. Go-Go boots became popular together with Nancy Sinatra's song "These Boots Were Made for Walking". First models that came out were white and flat heeled but soon designers were inspired to make colorful boots made out of unusual materials like vinyl and plastic. I love them because they are so eye candy! How refreshing would it be if this line would be re-launched and be introduced to young girls and teens in the 21st century. 3. Platforms Dressing to shock is a norm in the 1970's – Punk and Glam movements went to the extreme. It was a perfect time where platforms outshined other styles at time of the disco era. These are shoes, sandals and boots that are at least 4 inches in height. The movie "Saturday Night Fever" more so created a huge demand for this ultimate 70's symbol footwear- platform heels for women and platform loafers for men. In the late 1990's, it also made a comeback as popularized by the UK all girl singing group- The Spice girls. This fad indeed added some spice and height to teenagers and young women all over the world. Due to its popularity I remember having to tell my mom to get me a pair of clogs -as they were called in the 1990's. I really loved my clogs because it added length to my silhouette without giving me foot aches or leg cramps plus they're super pretty!
