The most imiportant thing is to recognize the distinct sound of each chord. Try to become familiar with the individual tone each chord produces. This skill alone will help you progress your piano proficiency faster than anything else you can do.
To become a pianist, one must demonstrate a proficiency in playing all of the piano chords and scales. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts. However, it does get easier with practice. While it may require patience, there is no substitute for the ability to command the piano chords and scales. Don't be intimidated! Hang in there you can do it!
