Be careful of what you wish for because you might get it. This old adage describes recent reports of large jackpot winners recently on the net. But upon a close look at how large winning gamblers are doing a short time after their big win, says that this is not so. In fact most of the winners after a time have come to a lot of difficulties in their lives. People who grew up with a lot of wealth have wealthy friends. So there is no conflict or dilemma present. A person growing up with money has been taught slowly but steadily how to care for it. The system is passed down from father to son in a cultural back drop familiar with guarding and preserving financial stability.
With the well-to-do a cultural barrier is in place that separates the con artist from the family. They also have experience with investment. On the contrary, the large jackpot winner is normally lost in a sea of instability. Yesterday his days were the same because a habitual pattern has been developed over time to protected him from drastic changes in daily life. Few new thought or ideas had to be tested. But with sudden wealth there is a sea of uncertainty that engulfs the winner. If he is prone to an addiction of some sort substance, the need for it is increased. Many find themselves in a hospital for an overdose of some sort. Many of these scenarios end up in divorce. The stress is just too intense in the home.
I am not saying that winning a lottery or Life Changing Jackpot amount is all bad. What I am saying is that a change of life for most people is very hard to accommodate. All new daily patterns need to be learned. These new patterns without a slow integration are going to be unhealthy changes without professional guidance. So in a very short time the happy winner looks troubled and out of his element.
What I have seen in people that are truly happy over a long period of time are persons who have developed happiness in their lives. It is something that is developed by focusing our attention to a feeling, weather that feeling is reinforced in our experiences of every day life or not. Most often money or things do not make us happy after their acquisition. Happiness is an acquired state of mind to be developed. It can not be won on an online slot machine or at an online casino.
