As many know, meditation as a technique had its origin in the ancient cultures of the world and is still practiced today as an effective way to remove the stress that modern lifestyles cause and bring direction and focus into our lives. Among the ancient people to use meditation were the Egyptians who believed that the human body was home to seven energy centers or chakras as they called. And these centers could be tapped and the energy released into our daily lives. The way to do this is through meditation. The chakras are points of concentrated energy that are located in different parts of a man's body such as the head or the heart. An ordinary human consciously or more often unconsciously uses these energies to affect and change their worldly lives. Hence chakras are what enable a man to perceive the world fully and at the same time enables him to realize events within that world. The organs at the point of the location of the chakras are in sync with the chakras and are affected by the properties of the chakra present. All the seven chakras spread through out have their own unique and distinct properties. If one chakra is out of balance, this affects the others such that imbalance of one chakra means the imbalance of the whole body. The only one way to balance these energy centers is through meditation. Moreover, meditation is also a technique that helps one investigate whether he or she is in balance. In case the person is not meditation helps him or her reach that balance. It is a simultaneous process that helps one to understand and heal. Alternatively bodily ailments can be used as a means of discovering whether or not one is in balance. Some amount of preparation is required before meditating. "Centering" and "grounding" are two recommended techniques that prepare you. Grounding is when you sit quietly and imagine roots growing from your body to the earth and feeling with it your connection with the earth. Centering usually means that you relax, take three deep breaths, feel the air reaching till your abdomen and then relaxing your whole body. Simply ‘feeling' centered within your body or imagining yourself to be so also can be a centering technique. It is understandable if you are one of those who are not in touch with your body so we recommend tightening your whole body and successively then relaxing your whole body while imagining shaping a blob of mud at the center of a spinning wheel as centering technique. Visualize yourself placing a globule of clay on a spinning wheel and then pushing it towards with the center with your hands. With your thumb on top find the center of the clay and keep pushing the mass towards its center and keep taking large and deep breaths simultaneously as you imagine the wheel spin with the mud placed exactly at the center. It is entirely up to you to decide which method you are going to follow. Whatever you do, it is important that you give sufficient time to your body to achieve that state of relaxation. Count till 30 or whatever number it takes for you to relax. Alternatively you could imagine taking 10 to 30 steps in order to calm down. However, it must be mentioned that Chakra meditation can never be a substitute for professional medical attention. If you have symptoms like chest pains, restricted breathing, severe throat irritations or any other physical difficulties while doing Chakra meditation then consult a physician as soon as possible.
