Among God's creations, man is considered to be superior for they are gifted with a mind which could be a powerful tool in just about anything. Yes, the mind is man's powerful tool to handle any tasks or obstacles faced and change his or her habits. It has also been a very useful resource if you want to succeed in life or make it better. Mesmerism is built upon the philosophy that the smaller mind can be influenced by the bigger mind. It is a science that existed even before man did. Famous philosophers such as Socrates and Demosthenes even used the science during their time. However, it was a man named Franz Anton Mesmer who popularized the said practice. Mesmer was an astrologer, physician and philosopher who first introduced the science as animal magnetism, a theory based on the belief that man has the power to influence and even heal people. He made use of this method while practicing his profession as a physician and claimed that it cured various diseases. This treatment method, which is called mind power mesmerism, became very popular that time then. But when tested by a royal commission, his methods were said to be false. It has continued to be a practice until now but instead of mesmerism, it is popularly known as hypnotism.
In this practice, there is an orator or a hypnotist that controls the mind of a subject or hearer through their powerful speech. The key to hypnotism is suggestion, which in its own rights also is a science. This method is also done with the aid of a clock. The hearer or subject is asked to halt his thoughts by just focusing on the second-hand of the clock. Once the subject's eyes become limp, the hypnotist now has great control of him and could start suggesting something that the subject has to accomplish. This is a good example then of a smaller mind obeying the bigger mind. Through this science, people could also do some marvelous and extraordinary things such as reading the contents of a sealed letter or walking on a suspended rope. Hypnotism has also been used in magic and as a modern approach to changing bad habits.
Mind power mesmerism or hypnotism is indeed one of the great wonders that man could experience. The science on how and why it works may be an enigma until now, but one thing's for sure: if you want to make things happen, just leave it to your mind.
